Partnering with Alkami to Unlock Gen Z’s Potential—and the Future of Innovation in Technology

“Technology is only new if you remember the way it was before.”

I first shared this discovery years ago to help leaders understand how different generations relate to innovation—and it’s resonated ever since. It’s one of my favorite insights because it captures something simple but powerful: what feels new to one generation may feel normal to another.

That’s exactly how Gen Z experiences the world. They didn’t grow up watching technology evolve—they grew up inside of it. Smartphones, streaming, and one-click everything aren’t innovations to them—they’re expectations. This shift in perspective helps explain so much about how Gen Z shows up as both consumers and team members.

What’s exciting is that this generational shift opens up new possibilities for how we recruit, lead, sell, and connect. Many existing strategies were built around previous generations, and now there’s a real opportunity to adjust and grow with Gen Z. This isn’t about replacing what works—it’s about adding new approaches that meet this generation where they are.

Gen Z brings different expectations to the table. They look for jobs differently, engage with brands differently, and define success in ways that reflect their unique experiences. And as the fastest-growing generation in the workforce and a major influence in the marketplace, their preferences are already shaping what’s next.

The good news? Leaders who lean in and embrace this generational change can unlock tremendous value—faster innovation, stronger engagement, and more meaningful connections with both employees and customers. It’s not about overhauling everything. It’s about making thoughtful updates that reflect where the world is going.

That’s why I was honored to keynote Alkami Technology’s 2025 AlkamiColab conference. Alkami is a great example of what it looks like to bring the future into the present. Their focus on innovation, user experience, and adaptability reflects the very mindset Gen Z appreciates—and the kind of leadership that drives momentum.

In the months ahead, I’ll be sharing insights from our work with Alkami and The Center for Generational Kinetics to help more organizations create bridges across generations. This is an exciting time to lead. When we understand what each generation brings—and what they need to thrive—we can build better outcomes for everyone.

Let’s make 2025 a breakthrough year, together.
